Research on college dropout has largely addressed those students who exit early from school, even though a large share of students who do not earn degrees do not leave until after their second year. This paper offers new evidence on the scope of late departure from college. Results indicate that late departure is widespread, particularly at two-year institutions and open-admission four-year institutions.
