Addressing Basic Needs Security in Higher Education
Title:
Addressing Basic Needs Security in Higher Education
Resource Type:
Report
Description:
Insufficient access to adequate food and to safe and secure housing inhibits academic success at all levels of education. This report describes how some community colleges are addressing this issue. Bunker Hill Community College recently established a meal voucher program. Houston Community College, one of the largest community colleges in the nation, is testing a food scholarship program. And Tacoma Community College, located outside of Seattle, is offering housing vouchers through a new College Housing Assistance Program (CHAP). Such innovative programs are needed to support students’ well-being and further research.
