Community colleges can generate social mobility by enrolling and graduating students from families with little economic security, but completion rates at the nation’s community colleges continue to lag behind the demand for educated workers. Among students earning low grades in community colleges, more than half are food and/or housing insecure. This case study explains how and why one community college, Amarillo College, has enacted a culture to address students’ basic needs.
